Portuguese hydrogen car starts engine and accelerates
As part of Galp's partnership with the Instituto Superior Técnico, the team presented the "Técnico Fuel Cell", a sustainable hydrogen-powered city car, designed and built in Portugal.
At the moment, the Técnico Fuel Cell - also known as the TFC01 - consists of a 130kg prototype with just one drive wheel for efficiency reasons, featuring PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cell technology.
The use of hydrogen (at 200bar) as fuel guarantees the production of clean, sustainable energy to power the vehicle's electric motor. The result: instead of polluting fumes, pure water comes out as waste.
"Técnico Fuel Cell represents the best of innovation, collaboration and entrepreneurship in Portugal. Our work aims to inspire the next generation of engineers and entrepreneurs, but also to position the country at the forefront of the sustainable mobility revolution," summarises Duarte Soares, Team Leader of TFC01.
