Small project description:
In Caxias, in the municipality of Oeiras, a living laboratory is being created to test innovative energy concepts, technologies and solutions. The Caxias Living Lab is an energy community of 20 buildings, a community center, a school and a market in the town's historic center, with 10 producers of energy produced by photovoltaic panels. The project has more than 200 photovoltaic panels of 80 kWP installed, as well as Vehicle to Home technology, using 8 decentralized batteries and 40 kWh of energy. The energy generated is optimized according to the consumption of its own members. Firstly, it is used for the consumption of those who produce it, powering heat pumps and electric water heaters that replace old water heaters and boilers and thus avoid CO2 emissions. The system also powers electric vehicle chargers that can return energy back to the house. Once the producers' needs have been met, the energy is stored in decentralized batteries distributed throughout the community. When the batteries reach their capacity limit, the energy generated is stored in a larger, centralized community battery. Thanks to new dynamic management techniques, it is possible to control and optimize all energy flows, thus guaranteeing management and distribution throughout the community. Caxias Living Lab materializes Galp's vision for the future of cities: innovative, clean and sustainable cities, side by side with the community and powered by the energies of the future
