Start-up Dioxycle wins international innovation challenge launched by Galp and Repsol
The Galp & Repsol International Innovation Challenge on “Achieving carbon-neutrality through CO2 removal and valorization” was Galp's first startup engagement program with an Industry peer. It aimed to find solutions in Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) and in Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR).
The initiative started with the objective of identifying disruptive technologies to accelerate decarbonization to help reach net zero emissions by 2050. Galp and Repsol joined forces to launch this challenge, enabling the transition to a carbon-neutral economy.
The challenge received 72 applications from 21 countries, and 6 finalists were selected: Agora Energy Technologies, AIR COMPANY, Dimensional Energy, Dioxycle, Electrochaea, and LanzaTech, who have promising technological solutions such as:
-
Renewable fuel biosynthesis
-
Biomethanization
-
One-step CO2 conversion
-
Low-cost CO2 electrolysis
-
CO2-based batteries
-
Low-cost CO2 SAF
The final event was on the 15th of December, and each finalist had the chance to pitch their solutions to the Galp and Repsol judges. After jury deliberation, Dioxycle was the winner.
The outcome was truly impressive, and all the participants showed innovative solutions. Although the challenge has ended, Galp and Repsol are open for potential collaborations.
