Nominations for the Galp Career Award and the Engineering Academy are open until May 4

Annual prize of €10,000 recognizes exceptional work in the field of engineering in Portugal. The winner of the first edition of the award will be announced on July 4.

Applications are now open for the first edition of the "Career Award", a joint initiative between Galp and the Academy of Engineering to distinguish individuals in the field of Engineering in Portugal.

With a monetary value of €10,000, the prize will be awarded annually to personalities of recognized merit who have made an unequivocal contribution to the prestige and affirmation of Engineering in the country.

The submission of nominations is an initiative of the members of the Academy of Engineering, who must formalize the process by e-mail (academia@oep.pt), confidentially, by 11:59 p.m. on May 4. Only substantiated proposals with a biographical note and main works signed by the nominated personality will be considered.

The jury's decision will be announced on July 4, based on the following criteria: (1) the social and economic relevance of the nominee's career; (2) the excellence of the engineering activity.

Several personalities from the energy and engineering sectors make up the jury for the 2024 edition of the Career Award. Eduardo Marçal Grilo, João Paulo Oliveira and Maria da Graça Carvalho, for the Academy of Engineering, and Georgios Papadimitriou, Ana Casaca and Manuel Andrade, representing Galp, are part of a jury chaired by Sebastião Feyo de Azevedo, president of the Academy of Engineering.

The prize regulations and application conditions can be consulted here or at https://www.academia-engenharia.org/.

Engineering is a decisive discipline for the country's economic and social development, and is becoming increasingly important in society in the face of major challenges such as the technological revolution, climate change or the energy transition.
