Galp and Nova University of Lisbon officially launch the WISE program

This partnership aims to immerse Nova students in a series of real-world challenges in the energy sector, promoting the development of innovative solutions with a special focus on energy storage.

Galp and Nova University of Lisbon have officially launched the WISE (World-changing Innovations for Sustainable Energies) program. Following the agreement signing, WISE an inaugural event at the Galp headquarters on 11th March 2024. This partnership is set to immerse Nova students in a series of real-world challenges in the energy sector, promoting the development of innovative solutions with a special focus on energy storage opportunities. 

The WISE program, a collaboration between industry and academia, aims to harness the creativity and knowledge of students from various disciplines to propel the transition to sustainable energy. Participants will engage with mentors from the Nova ecosystem and executives from Galp to turn their innovative ideas into actionable projects. 

Manuel Andrade from Galp's Open Innovation team and Hélder Lopes from Nova University were the event's opening speakers, setting the tone for a day of engagement and ideation. Rui Coutinho from Nova SBE then took the reins, introducing the teams and mentors, and outlining the various challenges they would tackle. Detailing these challenges further, Pedro Miguel Ferreira from Galp's Innovation team provided context and goals for the participants. The prize, a pivotal motivator for the teams, was explained by Susana Fonseca, who detailed the opportunity to attend the European Innovation Academy.

The launch was filled with anticipation and excitement, laying the foundation for what the program promises: a journey of innovation and real-world problem-solving. It leads up to DEMO DAY on June 4th 2024, where teams will present their projects to an expert jury for a chance to win impressive prizes, such as tickets to the European Innovation Academy, job shadowing opportunities at Galp, and a LinkedIn Badge to showcase their accomplishment.
