4th Edition of Galp Innovation Day focuses on Startup Engagement

The two-day event once again brought innovation to the forefront, connecting Galp with key players from the innovation European ecosystem.

On the 17th and 18th of July, Innovation Day returned for its 4th edition at Galp, focusing on startup engagement and external collaboration. This two-day event once again brought innovation to the forefront, connecting Galp with key players from the innovation European ecosystem.

On July 17th, approximately 150 participants, including representatives from academia, startups, and industry leaders, gathered to explore the impact of innovation on Galp's development. The morning session hosted the Executive Committee and Top Management, focusing on challenging the company with new innovation practices and showcasing a selection of current and recent innovation projects that Galp is working on such as:

  • Caxias Living Lab - The Caxias Living Lab is Galp’s first Energy Community, serving as a testbed for new technologies. It features community storage and introduces new offers such as photovoltaic systems (PV), heat pumps, and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) solutions.
  • Storage- A joint study between the Innovation and Renewable/Energy Management Business areas was conducted to explore the opportunity of incorporating Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) into Galp’s PV plants.
  • Rovscan – ROVSCAN is an ROV-operated tool capable to detect the flooding condition of flexible lines. It aims to mitigate production deferrals, increase operational safety and integrity management of SCC-CO2 exposed lines.
  • Hoop Carpool @Galp - The Hoop Carpool initiative, originated by Generation Galp 2021 trainees, promotes ridesharing among employees, making commuting more fun, cost-effective, and social.

During the afternoon, Georgios Papadimitriou, Galp's EVP of Renewables, New Business & Innovation, opened the event with welcome remarks. Ana Casaca, Global Head of Innovation, followed with a presentation on Innovation at Galp, providing facts and figures that highlighted the company's commitment to innovation.
